Simple Evidence of Insurability (EOI) solutions

Our digital solutions enable employees to easily complete their EOI during enrollment.

Our EOI systems provide a straightforward process — for HR and applicants

Evidence of Insurability, also known as EOI, often presents challenges for administrators, who need to coordinate between employees, employers, and insurance carriers for information requests. We’ve solved this problem! We make EOI easy for everyone.

Three digital integration options to manage EOI

We have three fully digital and mobile-optimized solutions for EOI that contribute to an easy enrollment.

With its direct integration and simple online sign-in, our embedded app makes EOI easily accessible for employees.

  • Because our online system is integrated with the benefits enrollment system, employees can provide EOI during their enrollment.
  • Our embedded EOI app can be integrated with dozens of leading HCM systems and benefits technology and/or enrollment platforms.
  • Integrating our embedded EOI App leads to EOI completion rates of 90%+
  • HR can relax, assured that employees have everything needed to easily apply for Unum benefits.

When integrating the EOI App is not an option and the employer self-manages their employee eligibility (often called “self-accounting billing”), our Custom Employer Link provides easy access to EOI. It can be used during or after enrollment.

Using the Custom Employer Link is simple, as the plan administrator needs only to provide employees who need EOI with a link to our online EOI system and an employer-specific access code. The employee can then log in and complete their application. Unum will notify the plan administrator of the coverage decision for each applicant and any dependents. No set up is necessary, and the link and access code can be posted to the employer’s intranet or included in benefits enrollment communications. Additionally, the employer may have their enroller assist employees by providing the link and access code when EOI is required.

When integrating the EOI App is not an option and Unum manages employee eligibility (often called “list billing”), our Post Enrollment Link can be automatically sent to employees that need to provide EOI.

After the elections are processed, if Unum has employee email addresses, Unum will email the employee directly with the secure Post Enrollment Link. When employee email addresses have not been provided to Unum, we’ll instead email the plan administrator with list of employees who require EOI along with a secure link that allows them to access electronic EOI, which they’ll then distribute. No set up is necessary, and the link can be posted to the employer’s intranet or included in benefits enrollment communications.

Approximately 85% of applicants will get an instant decision

Our streamlined process simply requires answering a few personalized questions, tailored to the applicant’s needs, while they apply for coverage. When we’re unable to make a coverage decision instantly, the applicant usually will need to provide additional medical information or complete a paramedical exam.

Transparency for Plan Administrators

Our system gives plan administrators an easily visible summary view on the home page of their Unum benefits portal that shows:

  • A summary view of all recent EOI decisions and any applications with outstanding information
  • For pending coverage decisions, detailed views on where the employee and a dependent is in the application process – without showing any protected health information
  • What actions Unum or the applicant must still take before a decision can be made

What happens if EOI is “pended”?

Unum will contact the employee directly for any remaining information needed once they’ve completed their online statement of health.

The employee will receive a letter at his/her home address once a decision has been made, and the plan administrator will be notified of each EOI decision through Unum’s administrative website.
