You should provide the member with the attached letter and rates. It is the member’s responsibility to return this form and payment to Unum within 31 days of retirement. You will see the member move into division 901 and Unum will continue to bill them directly. Members may remit premium directly to Unum.
If you receive confirmation that the member would like to continue coverage as a retiree, log into MyUnum and select Make Employee Changes. Follow the guided flow to enroll the member into the COBRA division (901). The Resources section provides detailed steps for all member changes.
We understand this may represent a change of practice for you. As Unum’s client, you are the owner of the policy and administrator of the enrolled members. You are the best source of knowledge on the reason for a termination from the plan (termination of employment or retirement) and can provide the right level of information to your members.
Unum no longer provides COBRA Administration services. COBRA is subject to Federal and State regulations that do not apply to retiree benefits. We offer retiree direct billing as a service to you as one of our valued legacy customers.
We will communicate directly with the impacted retirees. They will continue to get a bill and can set up online bill payment at pay.unum.com or remit payment via check to the following address. The billing number is required to accurately apply funds and continue coverage.
