Your COBRA questions answered

Unum is making administrative changes that will affect those whose COBRA benefit includes Unum Dental or Vision Insurance plans. Here are some answers to help you make the right decisions and protect your workforce.

FAQs regarding Unum’s administrative changes

Once you receive confirmation that a member would like to continue coverage, log in to your Unum plan administration account and select Make Employee Changes. Follow the guided flow to enroll the member into the COBRA division (701). The Resources section provides detailed steps for all member changes.

Please refer to Department of Labor > EBSA > COBRA  (https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ebsa/laws-and-regulations/laws/cobra).  You will find helpful documents including FAQs, guides and model notices. For questions regarding state-specific COBRA, please refer to your state’s government website. Example: If you are requesting Information regarding Maine COBRA, direct the PA to https://www.maine.gov and search for COBRA. 

Unum partners with TASC to facilitate administration of COBRA benefits for our Dental and Vision clients. TASC COBRA administration services can be accessed through iServices or MyUnum, Unum’s secure benefits administration portal; there is a monthly cost of $0.24 per participating employee per month for this service that we will cover until your next renewal. If you would like to engage TASC to perform your COBRA administration, please reach out to AskUnum to begin this setup process. Otherwise, you can select another third-party administration service.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) requires employers offering group health benefits (including dental and vision) to offer employees and their families the opportunity to extend coverage if they lose health benefits due to specific qualifying events.

In the past, Starmount has billed your COBRA members directly and collected premium as a convenience. As of June 1, 2022, Starmount will no longer be billing your COBRA members or collecting premium. We are offering to cover the expense should you wish to utilize TASC until your next renewal.
