Get ready for an important security enhancement

Our new, two-step verification feature will provide you with an important extra layer of protection when you work with Unum online. Soon you’ll notice that we’ll require you to confirm your identity with a passcode when you log in to Unum — A prompt will ask you to agree to our updated electronic consent (e-consent) to continue to access our site and receive documents and sensitive information electronically.

FAQs regarding Unum’s authentication changes

Yes, you can, and we will honor it. At that point, we will disable your online account and revoke your online access. You will always have the option to re-establish your account access if you change your mind.

Soon, when you access your Unum account, the system will automatically redirect you to a new login page.

  • After you enter your current user ID and password, you will receive a one-time passcode (OTP) by email to verify that you are really you. Important — once we send you the OTP you have 15 minutes to enter it online. If you do not enter the OTP within the allowed time, simply start over by accessing your account again and we will send a new OTP.
  • On the “Let’s verify you” screen, enter the passcode you received via email and select “Submit.”
  • Next, agree to receive electronic documents (Voluntary Opt-in Consent Disclosure). Simply select your state of residence, click in the box next to “I agree,” and select “Continue.” You will only have to complete this step again if you log in to your Unum account after 12 months of inactivity.
  • You will now be logged in.

No. Agreeing to the e-consent allows you to access your documents online. It will not change established paper processes that you may already have in place.

E-consent gathers your permission to transfer information electronically. With your affirmative consent, we can provide documents to you via our secure website or by email. Without your affirmative e-consent, we can only send you documents via the U.S. Postal Service or fax, which may cause delays. Likewise, you may only send us documents in the same manner.

Two-step verification is an online data-protection method that creates an additional step to help protect your account information, even if your login ID and password have been compromised.

Note: After your initial login using the two-step verification process, you can elect to receive future one-time passcodes by text message instead of email. Log in and go to “Settings” to change your passcode delivery preference. The option for text messages is not available for Broker Connect.
